From October 16th to 18th, 2024, the 6th Maruzza International Congress on Paediatric Palliative Care (ICPPC 2024) took place in Rome. This landmark event brought together over 450 participants from 48 countries, making it the largest congress ever organized by the Maruzza Foundation. The congress served as a platform for healthcare professionals, researchers, and advocates to collaborate on improving care for children with life-threatening illnesses.
The Bardo Foundation was honored to support two dedicated nurses from the Pediatric Palliative Care (PALBU) and Hospital @home Team at Oslo University Hospital. These professionals showcased their pilot project on implementing the Paediatric Palliative Screening Scale (PaPas), a vital tool designed to help healthcare providers better understand and address the needs of young patients and their families.
The PaPas Scale: A Game-Changer in Pediatric Palliative Care
The PaPas Scale is an innovative assessment tool created by Swiss pediatric oncologist Professor Eva Bergsträsser. It enables healthcare professionals to evaluate the level of care and support required by children facing severe illnesses. To enhance accessibility in Norway, the PALBU team at Oslo University Hospital translated the PaPas Scale into Norwegian, ensuring more children and families benefit from its structured approach.
Global Collaboration for Better Care
Presenting their project at ICPPC 2024 allowed the Oslo team to engage with global experts, refine their strategies, and contribute to the ongoing advancement of pediatric palliative care. Their participation underscored the crucial role of international collaboration in developing effective, compassionate care solutions for young patients.
Bardo Foundation’s Ongoing Commitment
The Bardo Foundation remains steadfast in its mission to support initiatives that enhance the quality of life for children battling severe medical conditions. By partnering with healthcare teams and participating in international events like the Maruzza Congress, we continue to advocate for advancements in pediatric palliative care and osteosarcoma research.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the PALBU and Hospital @home Team for their dedication and innovative work, as well as to the Maruzza Foundation for hosting such a vital event. Together, we can make a lasting impact in the lives of children and families in need, ensuring they receive the compassionate and effective care they deserve.
