Bardo Running Club 2026: Running for Osteosarcoma

Bardo Running Club 2026: Running for Osteosarcoma

The Bardo Running Club set an ambitious goal when it first started: to turn every kilometre run into meaningful progress for children facing osteosarcoma. This is not just a fitness challenge. It is a movement built on friendship, memory, and the belief that young people can create real change.

Where It All Began

Bardo Running Club was founded by friends of Bernardo “Bardo” Eggesbø. What began as a simple tribute run has grown into a youth led community of runners who train, compete, and organise events to support childhood cancer research.

Today the club brings together over 65 young people who share the same purpose: to honour Bardo’s spirit by staying active, showing up for each other, and pushing forward the fight against osteosarcoma.

The 2026 Goal: A Training Room for Sarcoma Patients

For 2026, Bardo Running Club has set a new goal: to fund a dedicated training room for sarcoma patients at the new Radiumhospitalet in Oslo where Bernardo underwent his treatment.

The project is being developed in partnership with the hospital, which is currently assessing the equipment and layout that will best support patients during treatment.

Exercise during cancer treatment is more than just physical activity. Research consistently shows that movement during active treatment can reduce fatigue, anxiety, and depression while improving quality of life and physical function. This is especially important for sarcoma patients, including those undergoing treatment for osteosarcoma.

The aim of the new training room is simple but powerful: to give patients a space that breaks up the routine of treatment, restores a sense of strength, and builds confidence at a time when it matters most.

What They Have Achieved Together To Date

The Bardo Running Club community has already shown what collective effort can achieve.

2023 – Youth Room at Radiumhospitalet
Together they raised more than 200,000 NOK to establish a youth room at the new Radiumhospitalet. The Ungdomsrommet now provides a safe and social space for young cancer patients and includes an adjoining classroom that enables schooling during hospital stays.

2025 – Osteosarcoma Research at Oslo University Hospital
In 2025, the community raised a further 250,000 NOK to support an osteosarcoma research project at Oslo University Hospital. The project focuses on understanding why current treatments work for some patients but not for others.

Across these efforts, more than 650 donors have contributed over 500,000 NOK. Runners have taken part in events across nine countries and three continents, turning personal challenges into real progress for patients.

Now the community is ready for the next step.
