In 2025, thanks to the support of our community, we committed $500,000 to the Defying Osteosarcoma TeamLab, led by Break Through Cancer, part of a $15 million global initiative bringing together some of the world’s leading research institutions.

This programme is designed to accelerate osteosarcoma research through global collaboration, shared data, and a more coordinated approach to developing new treatments. It is a truly unique initiative, and we are proud to support it as part of our mission to improve outcomes for patients.

We are pleased to share a meaningful update from this work, which is already helping to build the foundations for faster, more effective progress for those affected by osteosarcoma. Over the past six months, important steps have been taken to transform how this disease is studied and treated.

What has been achieved so far

• A data sharing agreement is now in place across leading institutions, enabling researchers to work together more closely than ever before
• Human and canine data is being brought together, helping to unlock faster insights into the disease
• A new central data platform is being developed to allow real-time collaboration and learning
• Dedicated teams are now working across clinical trials, data science, and treatment discovery

Moving closer to new treatments

Researchers are already identifying the most promising areas to target, including new drug approaches such as DNA damage response inhibitors and antibody-drug conjugates.

At the same time, development of the trial platform is underway. This approach is designed to test treatments more quickly, learn in real time, and bring the most effective therapies forward faster.

Because osteosarcoma is more common in dogs and often already spread to the lungs, it provides a valuable model for advancing human clinical trials.

Why this matters

For too long, progress in osteosarcoma has been slow. This work represents a different approach, one built on collaboration, innovation, and urgency.

By bringing together data, expertise, and global partners, we are creating the conditions needed to accelerate discovery and move closer to better outcomes for patients.
