We have committed over $700,000 to pioneering research focused on developing better treatments and finding a definitive cure for osteosarcoma.

Current Funded Projects

The Osteosarcoma TeamLab unifies clinicians, experimental biologists, data scientists, veterinary researchers, and software engineers behind two integrated research efforts, each implemented and resourced at the right scale and with the right collaborative framework to urgently create foundational solutions for the entire osteosarcoma community.

Project cost: $500,000

Lead Investigator Professor Kjetil Boye of Oslo University is leading an ambitious research project introducing novel therapies in the first-line treatment of osteosarcoma. The long-term goal is to identify and validate biomarkers that can help select patients with newly diagnosed osteosarcoma for the most effective, targeted, and personalised treatment strategies.

Project cost: NOK 250,000

Past Funded Projects

Led by Dr. Wolfgang Paster, this project used a powerful technique called mass spectrometry to study tiny changes in proteins when healthy cells turn into cancer. By analysing samples from osteosarcoma patients, the team discovered protein changes that immune cells can recognise, offering hope for new ways to help the immune system fight this cancer.

Project cost: $26,000

Led by Professor Nancy DeMore, this project investigated a new monoclonal antibody that targets a protein called SFRP2, which helps osteosarcoma cells grow and spread. By combining this antibody with other treatments, the study aimed to block tumour growth more effectively and lay the groundwork for future therapies and clinical trials.

Project cost: $398,000

Why we fund these projects

We are committed to supporting pioneering research initiatives aimed at discovering better treatment options and a definitive cure for osteosarcoma.

  • It has been 40+ years without progress in osteosarcoma treatment.
  • Only 4% of cancer funding goes to childhood cancer research.
  • 1 out of 5 osteosarcoma cases have already metastasized at the time of diagnosis.

We are dedicated to facilitating collaboration and the exchange of knowledge among leading global medical experts inosteosarcoma. Through strategic partnerships with prominent scientists, researchers, and institutions, our goal is to advance scientific understanding of the disease and expedite the development of innovative therapeutic solutions.

To date, we have allocated $700k to support research initiatives. This marks only the beginning of ourcommitment to funding projects that aim to improve outcomes for individuals diagnosed with osteosarcoma.

Applying for a grant

We do not currently have any open grant rounds. All projects have been carefully selected by our Leadership Team, with guidance from our Science Advisory Board.

How you can help

We have a fierce passion and a deep determination to find a cure for osteosarcoma to save lives. This is a rare cancer, and it is crucial that we work towards a cure. If you share the same passion as us, we urge you to join our journey in helping those with osteosarcoma.

All projects are funded through a combination of fundraising, co funding and industry partnership grants and match funding.
